Improbable London: Rogues, Royals & Rock Stars, Richmond Walk
A lost royal palace. A rock revolution. A riot on the village green. Welcome to Richmond. Beautiful on the surface. Fascinating underneath…
Richmond has been drawing improbable people to this corner of London for a thousand years. Royals, rogues, writers and rock stars; and one or two people you'd never expect.
This two-hour walk with a local guide tells their stories, while giving you the chance to soak up the atmosphere, discover the mysteries and admire the beautiful views that drew people here in the first place.
Highlights include:
- The club that launched the Rolling Stones - while the Beatles watched from the crowd.
- A royal palace, home to Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, now hidden in plain sight.
- A cricket match that ended in a riot. A pub that floods.
- The view that inspired Turner, Jagger and the founder of Richmond, Virginia - and the unlikely hero who saved it.
- And of course, all the locations that inspired Ted Lasso. Although that's not why people come back.
Connected by the London Underground or a short train ride from London Waterloo, Richmond is an ideal day away from the hustle and bustle of Central London.
Beyond the tour, there are riverside pubs, boat rides, picturesque walks into Richmond Park or to historic Ham House - or easily combine with a visit to the world-famous Kew Gardens.
Groups are maximum 10 - small enough to ask every question you like, go at your own pace, and actually hear all the answers.
